Professional Bio
A legal career grounded in public service.
Roberta Walton Johnson serves as General Counsel for the Orange County Clerk of Circuit and County Courts, where she provides strategic legal guidance, advances legislative and policy initiatives, and supports the Clerk's mission of innovation, accessibility, accountability, and public service.
Since joining the Clerk's Office in 2015, Roberta has played a key leadership role in strengthening public access to the justice system. She established and led the Lydia Gardner Self Help Center, helping expand meaningful access to justice for self-represented litigants and families throughout Orange County. Her work has focused on ensuring that residents can navigate the court system with dignity, professionalism, and support.

A proud graduate of Florida A&M University and the reestablished Florida A&M University College of Law, Roberta earned her Juris Doctor in 2005 as a member of the inaugural graduating class. Her legal career has been rooted in service from the very beginning. Following law school, she joined Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida, where she represented and advocated for low-income and underserved residents in critical legal matters.
Her broad professional experience includes public sector leadership with Orange County Government, private practice experience with Voight P.A., and years of nonprofit leadership directing community-based programs and initiatives throughout Florida's Big Bend region. This unique combination of legal, governmental, nonprofit, and operational experience has prepared Roberta to lead the Clerk's Office with competence, vision, and integrity from Day One.


Access to Justice
Building the Lydia Gardner Self Help Center.
Roberta established and led the Lydia Gardner Self Help Center, the front door for residents who need to navigate Orange County's courts without an attorney. Under her leadership, the Center became a model for accessible, dignified, customer-centered court service.

While her professional accomplishments and community leadership are extensive, Roberta considers her greatest blessing to be her family. She is married to Neil Johnson and is the proud mother of two sons, Dakari and Dylan.
